Energy renovation of Berck Primary School (62)
R-VRAC - LOST ATTICS
site area: 316 m²
Carried out by Isomur, this project highlights the importance of energy renovation for public buildings. By insulating this school’s attic space with bio-based solutions, the municipality of Berck ensures a healthy, comfortable learning environment for pupils while reducing its energy costs.
Project challenges: pupil comfort and public efficiency
As part of this energy renovation project, the challenge was twofold: improve the thermal comfort of classrooms and optimise the municipality’s energy budget, while providing a sustainable solution capable of regulating temperature throughout the school year. The technical objective was to achieve a thermal resistance of R=6 m²K/W.
Insulating the lost attics of a school is a crucial step in limiting heat loss in winter. In summer, it plays a fundamental role in preventing overheating in classrooms located under the roof, thereby ensuring better working conditions for children and teaching staff. This project demonstrates that high-quality insulation is the most effective lever for modernising the public building stock.
Key stages of the work
Isomur’s teams carried out a rigorous and safe installation in the school’s attic space.
Raising the access hatch
Installation of an insulated hatch riser to provide easy access to the attic while maintaining continuity of the insulation thickness.
Creating an OSB service walkway
Installation of an OSB access walkway to enable future maintenance of roof equipment without trampling the insulation.
Blown-in installation
Full-surface insulation by mechanical blowing. This technique ensures uniform coverage across the entire area, eliminating thermal bridges even in hard-to-reach zones, to achieve R=6 performance.

Flagship product: R-VRAC
To meet the requirements of this public building, the choice was made to use R-VRAC, our loose-fill insulation solution from the circular economy.
R-VRAC is a bio-based insulation material made from recycled textiles (around 20 recycled garments per bag).
It is an eco-friendly, high-performance alternative, perfectly suited to public-access buildings (ERP), combining thermal performance with a commitment to the planet.
